Because of her propensity for drawing and color, she was encouraged to pursue her art. Early introduction to Indian Pueblos and exploring deserts and forests had lasting effects. Later trips to northern Arizona and New Mexico realized her dream of experiencing, first hand, the serene, mystical beauty of the southwestern landscapes. She has traveled much in Mexico and speaks the language comfortably.<br /><br />High school provided a fertile artistic environment, and at University of Long Beach she became immersed in handworking clay, a medium close to her spirit. In her early twenties she was accepted into Chouinard Art Institute (Los Angeles), and attended Orange Coast College.<br /><br />Teaching workshops at San Diego’s Museum of Man introduced her to Native American culture (where she has some roots) and instilled interest in anthropology and ethnic art. While teaching art in private schools and studios she gradually pursued exposure of her art in the community.<br /><br />Parenio has won numerous awards at the San Diego Art Institute and other exhibits, and has been in juried shows in San Diego and New Mexico. One person exhibits include Inter-Action Gallery, UC San Diego, San Diego County Law Library, Gallery 21 in Balboa Park, The Lyceum, Spectrum Gallery, Santa Fe’s Moondance Gallery, Palomar College’s Boehm Gallery and the San Diego Art Institute.
